The term &#8220;crusco&#8221;, in fact, means &#8220;crunchy&#8221; in the Lucanian dialect.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This Lucanian delicacy has obtained the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) recognition, confirming its uniqueness and deep connection with the territory of Senise, in the province of Potenza. Cruschi peppers are not only tasty but also rich in history. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although today they are a symbol of Basilicata, the origins of <em>Senise cruschi peppers<\/em> are actually very distant. According to legend, it was the Aragonese who introduced this type of pepper from the Antilles during their rule over the Caribbean islands. Another theory attributes the credit to Christopher Columbus: it is said that during the voyage to the New World, the ship&#8217;s doctor carried large quantities of peppers for their medicinal properties.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, <em>Senise cruschi peppers<\/em> are hand-picked, sun-dried, and then quickly fried to obtain their characteristic crunchiness.
